A Different Kind of Christmas "N" July

Hello Everyone.
All is well!
I'm still working on house upgrade.  Yesterday, the hallway was stripped of wallpaper and today, the walls were washed down again to make sure all the glue was gone.  Now, I have to begin thinking about paint colors.  I have some ideas but will have to have my husband to agree or make a suggestion.
Last week HSN (television, home shopping network)  had craft supplies and craft people on the show for 24 hours.  I watched some of the show but not all.  I became interested in some of their bargains for the day and here is my Christmas "N" July gift to myself:

I can't wait to get back to playing with paper and glue.  Maybe tomorrow.  I don't know.
Thanks for reading.  Have a good day.

Love,
Lois

'O Holy Night'

Hello Everyone,
It is good to be alive and well today or I should say at this very moment.
The weather has been exactly what God has intended it to be.  Yesterday from eight in the morning, all through the day and last evening, it was storming with thunder and lightning and wind.  The electricity went out.  I could not post or do anything on the computer until late in the day and as soon as I was getting organized with something, it started storming again.
Three people died from the storm down on the Eastern Shore.  Many trees were down from the strong wind.
The card I did is another Holiday/Christmas card.  It reminds me so much as to what was going on last night.  The storm reminds me that God was having a "Holy Night" and we had to enjoy his marvelous work.  No, it did not snow, but the hard rain that fell with the loud thunder and lightning was God having a good time while we sat still and let him perform.

Thank you for viewing today.
Love,
Lois

Ready 2 Remodel

Hello,
Everything is still going good on this end. How about yours?
At our church service Sunday, a small portion was set aside to show appreciation to one of our oldest members who is 91 years old.  She can still walk but because it is slow her family decided to have a wheel chair at the church to get her down the aisle faster.  She attends Sunday School, Wednesday night Bible Study, Conference and regular church services.
I made the move this morning to start getting things ready for an upgrade to our house.  There must be some remodeling done to bring us out of the early nineties to  2014.  The first thing to start with is one of the bathrooms.  It had wall paper up until 10am this morning.  My day job (10 to 5) has been taking down the paper so that the painter can come in and paint this room.  New curtains, rugs and pictures will be added when the painting is finished.
Here are some pictures of what I did today.

Not very much left.  As you can see, I started above the shower and worked around the room and stopped above the door.  Beyond the door is the sink area.  I'm hoping the rest will not take as much time today.  Trying to save money so that it will not be added to the painter's bill.

Thanks for reading.
Love,
Lois

I'm So Happy!

Hello Everyone!
This morning I give God all the praise for waking me up and as the older people say, "started me on my way".
How are things going with you and your day/projects?
This is another Saturday with a few items to replace in the food pantry. So, I went to Food Lion...walking around picking up a little of this that you usually need and a little of that which could have stayed on the shelf.
When I arrived at the check out with my 27 items and after the cashier had finished totaling and bagging all of my items...I began to run my debit card through the machine to pay.  He looked at me and said, " I need to call the manager over" .  It could not have been that I didn't have any money in the bank because I was with my husband who had just made a deposit in our account.  When I looked at the cashier with questioning eyes...he said "oh, you are due for free grocery today".  I said, "that is really nice, what item is free"?  When the manager came, she said, "Madame,  your groceries will be free today because each day we give away one free grocery giveaway in our store and you happen  to be the lucky recipient. I did not have to pay for any of my 27 items.  Praise God from Whom All Blessings Flow!
Just a few pictures to show you how I'm thinking and feeling.

I pray God bless you today and every day.
With Love,
Lois

Throw Back Thursday

Hello Everyone,
I hope you are having a great day and all is going well with you.
Yesterday, I got my eyes examined.  I did not post because after getting my eyes dilated, the brightness was causing me to have some difficulty focusing.  I could not see that well  to use the computer.
Today, I had an appointment with my podiatrist.  I get a pedicure from her instead of going to the nail salon.
Thinking about my last two days with medical appointments, I want to encourage you to keep your body healthy and  get things checked out.  So many people are refusing to get body parts checked out these days or they wait until it is too late.

Here are three cards I want to share.  They were made a while back before I started this blog.  This is the reason I called today, "throw back Thursday".
The message from these three is: I'm thinking of you and asking God to bless you so that you may continue to celebrate birthdays!

Card #3

May God continue to show you favor as you continue to share in my love!
Have a Blessed Day.
Love,
Lois

Card In A Box Instructions

Hello!
Hope your day is happy and you are feeling great.  The weather here will be hot, humid and stormy in the late afternoon.  I love everything that God does because He has a reason for doing what he does.  I'm a little jittery when He sends thunder and lightning. What about you?
I showed a variety of cards in a box on yesterday and today I would like to go through the steps with you.

Gather material: Cardstock 12 by 12, designer paper, scoreboard and paper cutter.

Cut 12 by 12 cardstock down to 8 1/2 by 12.
 Score on long side at 2 3/4, 5 1/2, 8 1/4 and 11
Cut off 2 inches.  Do not throw this away it will be used for the inserts.
Now you have a 6 1/2 by 12 in piece turned to the short side and scored at 2 3/4
Cut the scored lines on the short side of the cardstock as shown in the picture.  On the 1/2 inch line (on the right) cut off this line at an angle (refer to picture).
Take the 2 inch strip and place the short end on the 4 3/4 line on your cutter and cut.
Turn the strip around and place it on the 1 inch line and cut. You will now have 2 pieces for your inserts that will go inside the box.
Here is what all three pieces should look like at this point.
Add score tape to the pieces as shown in the picture.
I like to add the designer paper before putting the box together.  Here, I cut 3 pieces @ 2 5/8 by 3 1/2 and 1piece @ 2 5/8 by 6 3/8 and glued them in place.
Turning the box over, I cut designer paper for the flaps: 3 pieces at 2 5/8 by
2 5/8  and 1 piece at 2 5/8 by 6 3/8 and glued those in place.
The box has been folded on the score lines and assembled by removing the score tape.  You are now ready to put the inserts inside the box.  Notice the directions of the inserts in the above picture.  This will be the direction of each insert.  Remove the score tape and insert into the box.  These inserts  will allow you to attach things to them  to pop up out of the box.
Here is my box with the inserts, and the designer paper.

I will stop here because I don't know as of yet what I will use for pop ups.
I hope you did learn something with the instructions today.
Here are  more boxes that I had made in the past:
Thank you for viewing today. If you still have questions don't forget to email me.

Love You,
Lois

Card in a box

Hello Everyone,
Just wanted to check in with you today.  I can only show you some projects that I have worked on and will reveal the steps in another post.  You may have seen or heard of the Card in the Box before because they are all over the internet and especially on Pinterest.  You could get your own template or video tutorial from Google or from Pinterest today or you can wait for my instructions tomorrow.  The instructions I used came from many sources on-line and to be honest the idea did not  originate with me.  After making my first one, which I also posted on Pinterest, I have continued to make more and I love them.  The hardest thing after getting the box cut and scored is deciding how to decorate it.
These are just a few of the ones I have made:
My very 1st Card in a Box for Teacher Appreciation Week

Join me tomorrow when we will look at the steps and make one together.

Keep cool if you're in one of those hot zones.  Enjoy your day!

Love,
Lois

A Scarecrow In My Garden

Hello Everyone!
I've really enjoyed my weekend.  What about you?  Did you do any fun and exciting thing?  Did you learn something new?  Did you laugh at something so funny that it made your stomach hurt?
My fun and excitement was shopping again.  Just some necessary supplies for the food pantry.  For my something new, I heard a fantastic message from the book of Ecclesiastes 3 ("Time Is Winding Up, and You Need To Get Yourself Ready").  The laughing matter happened because we have been having problems with squirrels and birds eating from  our fruit trees and vegetable garden.  All of the plums are gone and we didn't get any. Now, they have started attacking the garden, eating the tomatoes and cucumbers.  So my husband decided to do something about it....

After taking a nap, I woke up and looked out of my den door wondering who was that man in the vegetable garden. The squirrels, the birds and now a man who had painted his face.  A closer looked revealed one of those old fashioned scarecrows  standing guard.  If he does his job correctly, maybe ,we will use him earlier next year.
You can tell creativity runs in this family!!
As for my project, I continued to work on Christmas Cards.  I made this one hoping that we will see snow on Christmas Day in 2014:
Thanks for visiting.  Have a good day!

Love,
Lois

Christmas on a roll

Hello Everyone,
Today I'm sharing three more cards I made today using Christmas as a theme.  Most people do Christmas in July, which include shopping, card making, etc. Since I posted my challenge cards on yesterday, I decided to keep Christmas on a roll and make more cards.  Why not? I already had most of the material out on the table from yesterday.  So again enjoy and send me some comments.

Thank you for viewing.  Have a Blessed day and a Wonderful weekend!
Love,
Lois
