"Monday Mixture"

Hello Friends, Viewers, Followers and Visitors.

Whoa...it's the last Monday in the month of November and you know what that means...it's beginning to look a lot like the last month of the year.  Yes, Tuesday is the beginning of December and we say goodbye to November.  What a year!!!  Where has this year gone? It seems that it grew some wings and flew by in a flash.

After Thursday, after shopping, and after church, I'm settling in today to do a little crafting.  It is going to be a bit busy this week with some appointments that have to be taken care of. Therefore,  I'm going to try to get at least the majority of my cards ready today. It is a nice rainy day which makes the atmosphere quiet and serene...a good day to craft.
When a challenge is introduced as "anything goes", I like to first, look on my work counter to see what I can use before putting it away.  If it is many items of different textures but can be gel together, then, I begin to think mix media.  I didn't want to paint so I pulled together some items that I thought went together.

It is Monday therefore the title became, "Monday Mixture".  I mixed together things that I didn't really have to look for but I had to look at them to see if they would go together.  I am forever cutting out items just to see how they would look but never really using them until I want to.  They are placed in an envelope until moments like this.

What I used:

  • a piece of black netting cut like a flower
  • a piece of doily that was cut with black cardstock
  • a red flower
  • a key charm
  • pieces of Spellbinders Romantic Vines cut in red and black
  • butterflies cut out in red.
  • faux pearls
  • Ranger watercolor cardstock; black and white Recollection cardstock; music DP cut in strips
  • adhesive chipboard for sentiment

"3D Decoupage Thank You Card"

Hello Friday to my Friends, Followers, Visitors and Viewers,
After Thanksgiving day, after thanksgiving shopping, after black Friday door buster sales and deals, we are here at this moment!!!!
What a great moment after the eating and the shopping and just being thankful to everything.

I made a "thank you" card to share with my daughter and her husband (my son-in-law)  for the beautiful fellowship we had with them on yesterday.  Everything was just beautiful and I could not ask for anything more lovelier than what we experienced.

This card is a 3D Decoupage Thank You card.
If you have no idea what decoupage is, then take a look:
de·cou·page      /ˌdāko͞oˈpäZH/
noun =    the art or craft of decorating objects with paper cut-outs.

This simple to do craft requires that you use a minimum of two copies of the same image. On this card I use Designer paper from Ki Vintage Charm Paper Pad .  I used a piece that contained pick roses for the base and the other to cut out some of the roses for the decoupaging.

You essentially cut out parts of an image with a large background section as the base and smaller sections layered up on top with dimensional foam squares or adhesive. In this way, you create a 3D design which is traditionally used for handmade cards as well as framed pictures and art.

After achieving the above step, I cut out the individual letters to spell "Thank you" and adhered it to  the card.  I next applied glossy accent to the parts that were 3D.

Thank you for viewing with me today.  Go out and have some after Thanksgiving Day fun or try this 3D Decoupage.
Have a nice weekend.

Sending you a hug and Love,
Lois

"Using Acetate In Card Making"

Hello Followers, Viewers, Friends and Visitors,
Hope you are warm and cozy if you are in snow and frost?  Hope you are cool and comfortable if you are in humid and hot temperatures.

Today, I come to you with a somewhat tutorial on how I used "acetate in my card making".
Acetate is an interesting material to work with.  It has it advantage and disadvantage.  It can give you a beautiful effect or it can be tricky to work with because you have to maintain that clear base absent of adhesive and finger prints.

The brand of acetate I'm using for my project comes from Hot Off The Press Heat Resistant Acetate. This kind can be used in your embossing folders, you can stamp on it, use your die and heat emboss and I will say  it's amazing to work with.

I used Neenah Bright white cardstock for the base for both cards.
I measured in 1/4 inch in on all four sides and cut this section out on the front of the card.
I then cut out a 4 1/4 by 5 1/2 piece of acetate and adhered it to the front of the card (make sure the adhesive only goes on the edge of the acetate).
Designer Paper (DP) from Kaiser Craft Holy Night was used around the edge of the frame to cover the exposed 1/4 inch on the card base and the edge of the acetate.

Here is Card #1

A Martha Steward white doily was use as a base behind 3 poinsettias that were cut with the Spellbinders poinsettia die.
Using a Craftsmart Seasons Greetings stamp, I stamped the sentiment on a piece of Neenah white cardstock using Ranger barn door distress ink and hand cut the flags and adhered them under the flowers.
Eight Recollection faux gems were used (3 for flowers and 5 around the doily) to complete this card

Here is card #2
It will be entered in http://www.mojomonday.blogspot.com/  Mojo Monday 425

MOJO 425

Following the same step for adhering the acetate and the DP around the card base as in the first card, I then cut another piece and off centered it on the front panel.
Two circles and a square (rounded the edge) were cut out from the Simple Stories Cozy Christmas (DP) and backed with black Recollection cardstock.
The smaller circle was cut so that the sentiment "dear Santa" could be viewed as the focal point.
The cup of cocoa is a dimensional sticker from Recollection.
The theme for this card is based on a portrayal of leaving a cookie, a beverage and a note for Santa on Christmas Eve.
Design paper from Kaiser Craft Holy Night was used in the inside of both cards.  A sentiment can be written or stamped and hidden by the image on the front.

Here is the sketch I followed for card #2.

Using acetate may look hard but I know you will be careful in keeping the glue off the focal area.  Go forth and try something for a different effect.  I gave it a try and I'm pleased with my result.

It is debatable if I will post tomorrow and most likely not at all on Thursday.  However, I'm wishing everyone of you a Happy Thanksgiving with LOVE!

Sending you a hug and LOVE,
Lois

Christmas In Two Colors: What A Challenge

Hello Friends, Followers, Viewers and Visitors!
Today, I'm finding you full of joy, thanks and excitement because Thursday is Thanksgiving Day. Forget that today is Monday and you have three more days. I know the excitement is building.  You went shopping this weekend to get all those "fix in" for a stuff fill day and then....after Thanksgiving shopping and shopping again on Friday for the Black Friday sales. You just cannot contain yourself.

Since joining the Outlawz blog, I have tried to keep up with the challenges they offer each week.  The one for this week was a little challenging for me.  To stick with two colors was a little hard. I promised someone a box of cards and she specifically was interested in some for Christmas at this present time.  So keeping her in mind and entering challenges at the same time, I want you to see what I made:
Here is a list of the supplies I used for both cards

  • cardstock: Neenah Bright white for the base (4 1/4 by 5 1/2)z and for the die cuts; grey foil; red foil
  • die: Spellbinders Nestabilities Labels 20 & Elegant Ovals for the grey & white card; Spellbinders Nestabilities Floral Ovals and Elegant Ovals for the red & white card; Spellbinders Poinsettia (red & white) Darice snowflake (white & grey); Sizzix Tim Holtz Mixed Media (red & white); Darice holly for both; Sizzix Tim Holtz Holiday Words for grey & white
  • dove images from Google
  • Recollection faux gems
The grey and white card will be entered in the

Monday Greetings Challenge Christmas in 2 Colours GCC112315

and over at www.wordartwednesday.blogspot.com.http://www.wordartwednesday.blogspot.com

The red and white card will be entered in the same challenge if the grey and white one is not accepted.  Monday Greetings Challenge Christmas in 2 Colours GCC112315

Have peace and joy in your day today.  You may not be challenged with two colors but something may come along and challenge you in another way.

Sending you a hug and LOVE,
Lois

"Fun Day Friday"

Hello Friends, Followers, Viewers and Visitors.

It's beginning to look a lot like the weekend  all around the world.  For some, it is the beginning of an autumn break where we are making this Friday the last day of school and or work until the 30th of November.  Grandma's house is calling and it has been a long time since summer or since last Thanksgiving.  So, we will  get ahead of the traffic.

What do you actually do on a Friday if you are not working?  Is this the house cleaning day or is it the fun day?  Do you go shopping?  I talk with someone early this morning and this person stays in bed for half of the day.  Do you do this?  No matter what you do just enjoy doing it.

Here is what I did...I will and is having a fun day Friday!
Look at what I've done so far:
Supplies used:

  • Neenah white, black Recollection and red Bazzill cardstock
  • DP from Michael
  • image from Pinterest
  • Fantasy snow
  • Ranger Distress inks...( evergreen bough, tattered rose, scattered straw, fossilized amber,  spun sugar, mermaid lagoon
  • silver ribbon

Go forth and have a fun day Friday and have a Blessed weekend!

"Beauty Of Its Own"

Hello  to my  friend, follower, viewer or visitor.
Thank you for all the birthday well wishes.  Yesterday was a beautiful and happy occasion.   God  did allow me to make it over past midnight to see another gorgeous morning.  It is raining outside my window but I still see the beauty of God's work.

When you talk with people especially when it is raining, sleeting or snowing, do you ever hear them make the statement, " it's some ugly weather we're having"?  Also, during the autumn time of year, people reference the falling leaves as ugly and as making their yard look ugly.

A quote from Charles Dickens~
Nature gives to every time and season some beauties of its own.

Why don't we see beauty in the rain, sleet or snow?  Why don't we see beauty in the leaves off the trees?  Even though we can't see the wind, people still make negative comments about it.  The only time I do hear a positive statement is when the sun is shining and the temperature appease the individual's skin.

Beauty is all around us whether it is nature, weather or in each other.

Here are two cards I made this morning.  The challenge I'm entering over at the Outlawz for twisted Thursday, required something with wings.  I had cut out a white bird and a red bird but couldn't make up my mind as to which card I wanted to use.  They are both posted here and you will have to go to their website to see which one I used.

Supplies used for both cards

  • cardstock: Neenah white and Bazzill red
  • embossing folder: Darice snowflake
  • punch: abstract flower border punch by EK success and Martha Stewart branch
  • die: Bo Bunny and Tim Holtz's Holiday Greens and Caged Bird

Thanks for sharing your time with me today.

Sending you a hug and LOVE,
Lois

"For Me Today and You Tomorrow"

Hello Friends, Followers, Viewers and Visitors.
It is Wednesday and it came quick and fast.  I blinked and today was upon me with thanksgiving and praise.
I celebrate everyday that I'm here and can still praise God and do something to lift Him up.  He has given me another moment and if it is His will that I live to see 12 midnight, I'll say another day.
The fantastic reason for celebrating today is because it is my birthday today.
The reason some of you may be seeing this post early is due to the fact that I'm going out to enjoy and have some birthday fun!
Some people that I know have a habit of reporting to people the meaning behind their name especially for their birthday.   I was not left out of the equation:  Here is what I received that came from http://www.sheknows.com/baby-names/name/:
American Meaning:
The name Lois is an American baby name. In American the meaning of the name Lois is: Holy.
Biblical Meaning:
The name Lois is a Biblical baby name. In Biblical the meaning of the name Lois is: Better.
SoulUrge Number: 6
People with this name have a deep inner desire for a stable, loving family or community, and a need to work with others and to be appreciated.
Expression Number: 1
People with this name tend to initiate events, to be leaders rather than followers, with powerful personalities. They tend to be focused on specific goals, experience a wealth of creative new ideas, and have the ability to implement these ideas with efficiency and determination. They tend to be courageous and sometimes aggressive. As unique, creative individuals, they tend to resent authority, and are sometimes stubborn, proud, and impatient.

So, my name has a meaning and a purpose.

The creative side of me made a card  for myself today but tomorrow it will be used for someone else.
After putting all the pieces together, I just gazed at it and said, "Today this is my birthday card to myself and tomorrow you may be another kind of card for someone else."  That is the reason for the absent sentiment.
Supplies used:

  • dark grey and light grey Recollection cardstock
  • Neenah white cardstock
  • DP from Ki Berry Blast paper pad
  • Martha Stewart floral embellishment
  • corner die cut from First Edition Craft Doily Dies

Thanks for viewing with me today.

Sending you a hug and LOVE,
Lois

" A Couple of Tags"

Hello Friends, Followers, Viewers and Visitors.

What do you do with all that scrap paper you have in your scrap room and with all those items you haven't use in a while.?  Think!
Is the paper going in the garbage or do you package up those supplies to either sell them or give them away?
I found one solution to my abundance of scrap paper and with at least one item I had not used in a while:

Today I've made a couple of tags.  These can be used on gift boxes or bags.
Supplies Used:

  •  Cricut  Art Philosophy cartridge to cut out some tags at 4 1/2 by 2 1/2 from  scrap paper, a deer and a flower.
  • Tim Holtz Collection Stencil
  • Ranger Distress inks in various colors
  • ribbon
  • Martha Stewart punch
  • snowflake and birds from Recollection
  • Gesso
  • Computer Generated Sentiment
Here are the tags I'm sharing:

It has been a while since I actually cut out something with Cricut and played with the Distress inks.
I thought I would use a little time today to practice.
This is nothing fancy.   I just wanted a moment of fun and to use my Cricut.

Take a little time to play around with something you haven't used in a while.  You may be surprised with what you may find in your scrap room.

"Paris, A Wish For Hope And Comfort"

Hello to my Friends, Followers, Viewers and Visitors as well as
All who are praying for Paris and the world today.

This includes those who frequent this blog and keep up with what is going on.  The attack on Paris cannot be missed if you have a radio, TV, or any technology device that gives you the news.
I don't live in or near that area but it saddens me to hear of the hatred that people have against one another.
Terrorist attacks, police brutality, racism and just plain hostile attitudes and demeanor toward people of another country, your own home town, and within families whether biological or church, calls for  a  need for prayer.
Physically I cannot go to and do anything in Paris but I can kneel in prayer and ask God to give them peace and comfort during this time of sadness and lost.  I challenge you to do the same.

I'm sharing a card that reflects the feeling of what happen over the weekend.  It will also be submitted to Monday Greetings Challenge – November 16 - Use Fuchsia - GCC111615  over at http://outlawzchallenges.ning.com/group/monday-greetings.

Supplies used:

  • Neenah white and fuchsia cardstock
  • DP from DCWV A Type of Art mat stack
  • free image from Pinterest
  • Stickers from Special Moments and K & Company
  • die: Spellbinders floral die and doily from First Edition Craft

Thanks for sharing your time with me today.  Please pray for our friends in Paris.

Sending you a hug and LOVE,
Lois

"The Leftovers"

Friday the 13th!!!!!
It is a good, glorious and thankful day my friends, followers, viewers and visitors.  There is no superstition going on today with me.  It is another day that God has made.  Let us rejoice and be glad in it.  Don't you think we have had enough of bad vibes for this week?  Hold your head up high and be joyful!
Fridays are very busy for me.   I always call Friday my "deep cleaning day".  My daughters will check in with me when they think I've reached a point to sit down and talk with them on the telephone.  Their first question on a Friday is "are you busy or can you talk".
Usually, I would have made my Friday card on a Thursday evening so that I would only have to do the posting.
Today is different.  I didn't have time yesterday, so I looked at what was leftover on my desk and decided to use what I already had.  It had to be a quick and easy card so I could get back to working around the house.
Items that were on my desk:  pieces of red and black paper; sequins; die cuts from Sizzix Tim's Holtz  Holiday Greens; a die cut bow and a Faber Castell Pitt pen that was still laying around as well as a few brads;
The cards I made were quick and easy.  Since I'm not entering these in any sketch challenges you will have to wonder "how did she do that" with those leftovers?

You may remember this card from last Thursday:  I entered it in the Twisted Thursday Challenge over on The Outlawz blog

This is what I received this morning:

Check out your desk.  You may be surprised to find enough leftover items to make something quick and simple.

Thanks for coming over to be with me today.  Take a little time to enjoy whatever view you have planned for the rest of this day and for the weekend.  God Bless!

Sending you a hug and LOVE,
Lois

"Happy..."

Hello Followers, Visitors, Friends and Viewers,
Welcome to Thursday my dear ones.   Thank you for your lovely comments, your continued support and your concerns.   I'm "happy".

So what makes one happy?   This could be a life long question but we don't have that much time today.
Many things that are too numerous to count, I presume.  Now, if you are a sad person you probably can hold up your hands and count your happy things on your fingers.   Not me.  My list is very long and it continues to grow day by day and sometimes minute by minute.  I'm counting my happy just as I'm tapping each one of these keys on this keyboard while I'm writing.  You can list your happy in your head while you are reading what I wrote.

The card I made for today includes just the word "happy..." on the front for the sentiment.  For the person who will be giving it away (this is going in my give away box), they may want to to wish someone a happy birthday, a happy anniversary, a happy recovery, a happy day, a happy trip, etc..

Take a look at the card I made for you today:

"O Christmas Tree"

Hello Friends, Viewers, Followers and Visitors.
Happy Veterans' Day to all the veterans: Army, Air Force, Navy and Marines.  We salute you for what some of you did for our country  and for some of you who are still doing for our country.

Many of you may have started already to decorate for the Christmas holiday.   There are so many lights to hang.  There are so many yard ornaments to put up.  If this is a tradition for your property and you have different Christmas scenes to share, I know you are busy getting them together.  It is going to take you from now until Thanksgiving day to get it done.

I remember when my girls were at that age to help decorate.  It would be the week after Thanksgiving or when school closed down for winter break .  We would pull out all the decorations and make our home sparkle with cheer and merriment.

When my youngest daughter finished her last year in college, it was the last time that we really decorated the house. Two Christmas door wreaths is about as much of a decoration that you will see at our house. We go to see their decorations now:  Florida and North Carolina.

The Christmas tree was a joy to decorate.  I would buy the ornaments (at the end of the season) and change the color for the next year ( I've never been one that liked to see the same thing over and over).  Before I stopped decorating the tree, my youngest daughter had started getting collectible ornaments to put on it.  These were the ones she would hang when she came home from college.  She still does that today at her own home and for her little girl.

O Christmas Tree! O Christmas Tree!
How richly God has decked thee!
O Christmas Tree! O Christmas Tree!
How richly God has decked thee!
Thou bidst us true and faithful be,
 And trust in God unchangingly.
O Christmas Tree! O Christmas Tree!
How richly God has decked thee! !"

Sharing this card with you today:
Supplies:
  • Neenah white cardstock for the base and top mat
  • DP from ki Berry Blast paper pad in red for the mat next to the base
  • die: Spellbinders foliage die; Sizzix Tim Holtz's Holiday Greens; Paper Smooches Dots and Dashes
  • Embellishments: a piece of gauze; berries from Petaloo; star and sentiment from Jo'lee
I may not be decorating a live or faux tree for this Christmas but I did try to decorate one to share with you today.

Thanks for visiting.  Leave a comment.  I love hearing from you.

Sending you a hug and LOVE,
Lois

P.S.  I received good news and forgot to share it with you:
I had a card that was "featured"  on The Outlawz page for last Thursday challenge.
I had a card that was "favorite" on Splitcoast Wednesday card sketch last week.
I was a site winner on The Outlawz for October.
God is still in the blessing business and I LOVE him for keeping me in HIS loving arms.

"Whisper This Short Prayer"

Hello Friends, Followers, Viewers and Visitors,

Have you watched the commercial for "Capital One" where Samuel Jackson poses the following question at the end of it with these words..."What's in your wallet"?

Many of us have and carry around credit cards for various reasons.  It is something you can pull out and use in an instant (provided you haven't used up all your credit).
One reason to carry a credit card is to have something to use in case of an emergency.

Keeping this thought in your mind ...in cases of emergencies....
Without thinking of instant money, I want you to now focus on what's in your heart when you're going through something.  Can you instantly repeat scripture words, sayings or prayers that you have credited to your heart, mind and soul to use in a case of emergency?

Here is my share for today.  Learn and whisper this short prayer whenever you need it:
Enabler's List:
  • Neenah white cardstock 4 1/4 by 5 1/2
  • black Recollection cardstock 1/8 less than base
  • this is a "wood grain like" sheet of paper that I found in a magazine and I don't remember where it came from
  • sheet music paper and hearts from Ki Berry Blast paper pad
  • punch: Little B Moroccan
  • die: Spellbinders heart die

inside of card

Just as you keep credit cards in your wallets to use in case of emergencies, we also need God's words in our spiritual bank.

To those that left me some encouraging words on yesterday...thank you!

Sending you a hug and LOVE,
Lois

"My Deep Waters Experiences"

Hello Friends, Followers, Visitors and Viewers,
I'm so glad you survived the weekend and came back today for a visit. I survived!  I'm still here but let me tell you of some of the things that happened while I was away.
Saturday, my husband and I went out for a drive.  We knew the weather report had predicted a 70% chance of rain.  It was drizzling as we were leaving home.  The more we drove south, the heavier the rain became.   A few pot holes in the highway along with heavy down pours ( the ones that you can't see what is in front of you), would have made some like me to turn around and head back home but my husband seem to think we would be okay. Yes, we were.  God is good and  He didn't take his hands off of us out in the deep waters (some spots on the highway).
Sunday, we experience another "type" of deep waters".  The kind that comes from hostile and retaliating  individuals.
To be truthful, the hostility was towards me but since my husband and I are a team, I'm including him in the scenario.

I'm a Sunday school teacher for our adult class at the church we attend. ( I was until yesterday). Yesterday's lesson was about dissension surrounding whether the Gentiles should be circumcised...Acts 15:1-12.   Without going into the full details of what happened in our class, let me just tell you that Satan showed up and showed out in two of our adult members towards me.  One person's hostility  started as soon as I asked if there were any questions concerning the previous lesson as well as the lesson for that day. He (yes a man) wanted to know if I hadn't open my mouth (at that moment) to teach him anything then, how could he ask a question or make a comment...I started praying silently.
Approximately fifteen minutes into the lesson another person or persons started mumbling loud enough that I stopped to ask whether there was a question or comment that needed to be made.  Here is where I want to say and I'm going to say it...all "hell" broke loose and an adult woman attacked me verbally.  I wanted to "let my hair down" and give her a dose of her own medicine, but I knew that would have been very ugly of me.  I tried to clarify something that she said I had not done, but to no avail, she didn't want to listen to me and to be honest I didn't want to listen to her.  I simply stated that the comment I had made was biblical truth...something she doesn't like hearing and secondly, I wasn't there to argue with her over what God has said.

I felt as if I was really  swimming now in the deep waters.  Two adults in the same room retaliating and being hostile towards me cause me to say, "this is it...my volunteering to teach ends at this very moment".

We all have been through deep water as in trials, troubles, sickness or death of a love one. Many times it seems our feet don’t touch the bottom but, God says, it shall not overflow thee.
Also sometimes we think we are in deep water and we are going to drown but when we step out on faith in our Lord Jesus we find the water is only 2 feet deep.

No matter what comes your way, whether it is good or bad, we will survive.  I believe God parts the water, straightens the paths and sometimes defeats the enemy without us even knowing it.

Thanks be to God that I feel so much better by sharing my burden with you today.  Here is my card reflecting this experience:
Supplies I used

  • Mojo 423
  • Outlawz Challenge: Keep Me in Stitches (faux or real sewing)

There will be areas of deep waters in your life but you have to have an anchor to keep you from sinking.  My anchor is Jesus.  Who or what is yours?

Sending you a hug and LOVE,
Lois
