Fancy Fold Card #5...Twisted Easel Card

Hello Everyone!
It's Friday and I know you already know this.  What a wonderful week I have had and I hope you did also.  Tonight, we help our Town Council pass out Halloween candy to the trick-or-treat (ers) as they come out to a little small party given in their honor.  We get to set our clocks back one hour on Saturday night.  Remember the one hour some of you lost during the "spring forward", now you can sleep in or be on time for church service on Sunday morning.  It doesn't matter what happens to the time, some people just love to be "fashionably late".
All week I have posted fancy fold cards and today is no different.
What I have for you today is a "twisted easel card".
I'm trying to share a link from Christina Griffiths
https://youtu.be/tdiHavEdgSE.  This is the one I first used about two years ago.

This is the card I made today:

You are amazingly amazing
I've used black Recollection cardstock for the base which was cut @ 9 3/4 by 4 1/4. Next, I scored the base  on the long side @ 4 1/4 .  This 4 1/4 was then scored diagonally (in half with the bottom piece folded toward the card.  From here, I used Design Paper from Colorbok 6 x 6 Natural Expressions for my mat on the front and inside of the card.  I used Spellbinders Labels 18  and an oval to cut out a mats for my image.
Here is the card when it is open to show the inside and how the easel is opened.

A close up of the easel.  To keep it open, I've placed a faux gem to prop the easel back.

Here is another fancy fold card that doesn't have a name.
I searched for the proper name but couldn't find one from the pictures on Pinterest.
However, I basically kept trying until I came up with the scores to make this card:
Start with a piece of 8 1/2 by 6" cardstock (heavy) for the base.
Score this piece on the 8 1/4 side @ 2 1/8", 3 1/8", 5 1/8" and 6 1/8"....use design paper  on the 3 panels.
You will also need another piece for your frame (larger one) 4 1/2" by 4 1/2"...add your design paper to this piece also.
Instead of having three frames, I used a sheet of design paper cut  @ 3 3/4 by 4 1/4 for my 2nd frame and then for my third frame  I cut out a another piece of cardstock 4" by 3 1/2 and matted it with my sentiment.

Side view of this card.

I hope you have enjoyed the "fancy fold cards" I've shared with you this week.  Come back Monday to see what I'll be posting for your enjoyment.

Sending you a hug and LOVE,
Lois

Fancy Fold Card #4... Side Step

Hello to Thursday and to my friends, followers, viewers and visitors.
All week long I have presented some form of "fancy fold" card for your viewing and/or for your instructions on how to make one.  I will repeat... I'm doing what any of you will do and that is to go to Google, Pinterest or You Tube to find the information for yourself.
I cannot give myself credit for the fancy fold cards you have seen on this site.  The only credit I will accept, is how I have used my imagination to dress the base card once it is cut and folded.

Today's fancy fold is a "side step" card.  I have chosen to have the step on the right hand side.  It could have been on the left.  Here is some information to help you:
be merry

Side View
Supplies:
dark blue Recollection cardstock for the base and white Recollection cardstock for the die cut snowflakes and the snow mounds.   The panel images and the bears came from Martha Stewart Christmas mat pad.  A little black soot distress ink was used around the edges.

Another step card is the center step card:

Together...Let your life lightly dance on the edges of time like dew on the tip of a leaf.
The base can be made by doing the following:
* cut a piece of cardstock (heavy) 7" by 10"
* place the 10" vertically on your paper trimmer and place the left edge on the 4 3/4 line with the blade at the 1" mark on the ruler.  Press down and cut down to the 8 1/2" mark on the ruler of your trimmer.
*slide the left side of the paper to the right and position the left side on the 2 1/4" mark, and as the first time, with the blade at the 1" mark on the blade ruler, press down and cut down to the 8 1/2" mark on the ruler.
*now place the piece on your score pad with the 10" horizontally across the top and score between the cut lines at 1" score.  (Score only between the cut lines.
*score only between the cuts at 1", 2", and 3 1/2".   At 5" score right through from the top down through to the bottom end.  Then back to scoring only between the cut lines at 7 1/2" and 8 1/2"
* Fold on the score lines...1" mountain, 2" valley, 3 1/2" mountain, at 5" the sides are mountain, but middle section is a valley, and 7 1/2 mountain.   Do Not Fold the 8 1/2" score line.  That is there just for a little give.
* When all are folded, the card should be 7" by 5".
 Supplies:
white Recollection cardstock for the base
DP from Botanique
Image fro Google
Together and Butterfly from stickers
faux gems

Come back tomorrow to see what "fancy fold" card I will present to you.

Fancy Fold Card #3...It's So Fancy

Hello friends, followers, viewers and visitors.
We are celebrating Wednesday! Celebrating, yes we are !  What big occasion is it?   Here it is....   It's  a "good to be here" day  and it is a  "better to still be living" day.  We have those days every day at least I do, to help you to celebrate, no matter if it is your birthday, anniversary or a "just because" day.  We take many things, people and sayings for granted without giving any consideration to them.  I'm thankful for your comments and continued support on this blog...I really am.  I will continue to "thank you" and "support you" in your endeavors.  Yes, all of me loves all of you.  There, you have it and you cannot take it back!
We are on day #3 of my "fancy fold cards".   In no way can I take credit for the directions for the tri-shutter or the building block card that have been previously posted.  I did not design either one of them.  Neither did I design the one I'm sharing today....I'm doing just like any of you: going to Pinterest, Google and You Tube to find inspiration.  I just chose to make this week all about the "fancy fold cards".  Have you noticed I have not done a card for MojoMonday.  If I could have wrapped my fancy fold around their sketch I would have (lol).
This is the card that I'm sharing with you today.  The fancy fold has "no specific" name, hence I've given it a name...It's So Fancy:

Enabler's List:
cardstock: grey Recollection
DP: also Recollection Yellow Grey Plaid and Panal with a scrap piece from my stash (crossword)
       sentiment printed on white vellum
embellishments: Michael's flower; jolee's stickers
die: Spellbinders' Romantic vines

Side Views of the above card

How it was made:
Step one.  Cut a piece of cardstock 5 1/4"  by 8" in any color of your choice.  I use dark grey in my project.

Step two: score the 5 1/4" x 8" piece of card stock at 2" and 4".

Step three: fold the card stock in half and cut to the 2" score line 3/8 " from the bottom and again at
1 7/8" from the bottom.  (See picture below)  This is basically your card except for another 5 1/4" by 4" that will be used for the back panel to adhere your card to.

You will cut your design paper 1/8" less than your three sides and adhere them to your card base.  Here you can use any design paper of your choice.  If you are using Whisper White or (any white), you can be creative and stamp images on your panels.

This card (my first) was made a while back (not sure about the date).  You can notice the difference between how I decorated the panels compared to the one I did for today.

I'm really enjoying your comments on Google+.  I'm glad you like what you are seeing.

Sending you a hug and Love,
Lois

Fancy Fold Card---Tri Shutter Card

Hello to all (Friends, Followers, Viewers and Visitors.
I had a great weekend.  Shopped again on Saturday and was the Mistress of Ceremony for a church program on Sunday.
Today is the start of what I want to call Fancy Fold Cards week.  I like making cards with different shapes instead of the traditional one fold in the middle type of card.  I'm looking at different ideas on Pinterest, Google and YouTube.  If I don't do the tutorial myself, I'll refer you to where you can go for instructions.
The card for today is called a Tri Shutter Card.
I've made many in the past and posted them on this blog.  Today, I'm going to refer you to go HERE and follow along (I started with the tutorial but didn't have time to finish...so I wanted to make it easier for you).
The following is the opened card with two other views  (it is the same card).
Supplies Used:
cardstock: black, red and white Recollection for the base, mat and punch border
DP: Ki berry blast paper pad
Sticko themed music stickers
*CAS except for the scoring and folding

This is the first on my list for this week's Fancy Fold Cards.   Come back tomorrow for the second one in the series.

Sending you a hug and LOVE,
Lois

"Christmas Joy"

Hello Followers, Friends and Viewers,
You are counting down the days toward Christmas.  I know you are.  You can't even get through Halloween or Thanksgiving.  These two are just a blur.  You have started making your list and checking it twice.
Let me remind you that it is approximately two more months before Christmas day.  Did the decorators in the malls wait?   No!  Are all of those catelogue companies waiting to send you "a wish book"?  No!  Are the crafters waiting to make those cards to give or send?  No!  Am I complaining because I saw Christmas decoration in all the malls I went to last week? No, but some people did because I heard them.  Did I complain because I'm receiving Christmas catelogue in my mail box? No, because I always look at paper in a way that is different from other people.  If the company put in a few pages that is the weight of cardstock, I can see a vine, flower, frame or something that I can make from it.  Is there something negative about crafting a Christmas card so that you will have enough before the deadline? No, because when you consider family and friends, that is a lot of cards to personally make.  Do I want to come out the easy way and buy a box from one of local stores to send?  No, I like personalizing.
Joy is the emotion evoked by well-being, success, or good fortune or by the prospect of possessing what one desires .  It is also a source or cause of great happiness .  This is what I would like to see achieved in others.   If, in this small way of making a card and sharing it (The Good News) with you, then, my purpose of  bringing you happiness has been achieved.
Here is the one I made for your viewing today:
"Christmas Joy"
Supplies:
cardstock...white Spectrum Noir and Bazzill in burgundy
DP...Botanique and Colorbox Signature Novelty  ( for the flower...pieces from my stash)
die...Tim Holtz Alterations Holiday Words; Script and Holiday Greens
Recollection faux gems and a white chalk pen

I really appreciate your viewing pleasure.
Please come back again!  I love hearing from you.

Sending you a hug and LOVE,
Lois

"Thank You Card With Built In Gift Card Holder"

Hello Friends, Followers, Viewers and Visitors.
Have you needed to give a gift lately?  Have you had the desire to thank someone with a gift lately?
What if you don't know exactly what to purchase?  Little children are easy to shop for but what about the adults that may already have "everything".
I have grown children and one has a child of her own.  When it comes time for birthdays, anniversary, Christmas, etc., I will easily write a check and have them buy their own gift ( I know you think this is tacky but they get to buy whatever they want).
I've recently started asking about stores and restaurants that they like to frequent so that I may get a gift card to put in a card.  In those cases I've had to put some tape on the gift card to keep it from slipping and sliding around in the envelope.
If you stay on Google and Pinterest looking for ideas and quick tips, you may have seen a homemade card that included space for a gift card holder.
I started making some to have on hand when I need them.  These are not only for family members but anyone who I have to give a gift to and especially a monetary gift or a gift card to their favorite store or restaurant.

1st card
This one is closed to show how the finished product will look
When I send it, I will include a sentiment to the front of it.

2nd Card
This one is opened to reveal where the gift card holder will go (behind the closure)
Again, the sentiment will be placed on the front when it is ready for a recipient.
3rd Card
This one is closed.
I'm thinking of using this one  for the Holiday season

4th Card
How to make a card with a built-in gift card holder:
Start with a regular base (4 1/4 by 5 1/2);
 Next, add a mat that is 1/8 inch less than the base;
Cut a third piece that is 1/8 inch less than the mat.  On this piece, cut a slit 1 1/4 inches from the bottom about the length of your gift card.
Cut another piece for the flap starting with a 2 1/2 inch wide by 4 1/2 inch long. ( This piece is cut in half giving you a 2 1/2 by 2 1/4 piece)
Score 1/4 inch on each side of the flaps.  Punch a hole in the center of each flap.  Here you may elect to leave the punched hole or add grommets for a neat look.
Place glue on the scored 1/4 inch and adhere this to the side of the mat to cover the gift card.  Cut a piece of cord or ribbon to use for a tie.

Your card is still a card with the gift card holder  built into the front.  You may elect to build this inside of the card using the same procedure.

Thanks for taking a little time to view with me today.

Sending you a hug and LOVE,
Lois

MojoMonday Sketch

Hello, hello, hello to Wednesday.
Friends, followers, viewers and visitors, guess what day it is?  It is Wednesday, the middle of the week and things are going really, really good on my end. What's happening with you?  Are you wishing it was Friday so you can end your work week?  You know we are not to rush things. If you want today to be your last work day for this week, then, go ahead and put in for two vacation days (that is if you have some).  Don't use your sick leave because the flu season is right around the corner and you are going to need that time to deal with that  in case you get it.

I looked at the sketch provided on MojoMonday.blogspot.com for this week.  I have cards that I could have posted but I just like to challenge myself.  This sketch looked cute and I thought of many things to use with it but settle on these two:
My first card
Supplies:
Recollection cardstock...white, silver and black
Patter Paper: Studio Calico Darling Dear paper pad
Die: Paper Smooches glasses and Tim Holtz  thinlits friendship words script

Enabler's List:
cardstock: pink, white and black

#Stormsdon'tlastforever

Hello Tuesday,
Welcome friends, followers, viewers and visitors to another day of happiness and blessings.
If I mention the word "storm", you will probably immediately think of bad weather: rough winds, ice, snow, thunder.  Those are in the family of conditions from nature.
What if we can put our mind and thoughts around "storms of life": Whether it be:
Family
Finances
Sickness
Depression
Temptations… You are just battling away and looking for not only for a way out but some are just looking for answers.  You have to understand, storms are a way of life. There will never be a year that will go by that we will not see threatening weather in our Christian life. Storms are going to take place. But it’s how we react when they come upon us that’s the question.

The storm(s) will come while we are in God’s Will.
Read Matthew 14:22-31...Jesus makes his disciples get into the boat and go to the other side. A storm starts brewing. The wind becomes contrary.  Jesus is up in the mountain praying. The disciples were starting to get concerned.

You have to realize that these storms are going to come. This will not be your last one.  v. 26 - They didn’t recognize Jesus when He came to them.  But isn’t that just like us. We don’t see Jesus in our storms? Why?
We are so caught into what we are going through that we don’t recognize when God shows up.
God may not always show up in an angel outfit  There maybe times where His way of getting you to your next level comes in form of something that scares you.  Anytime God moves us up, He is moving you out of your comfort zone of service. Why does He do that?
We get so comfortable in our situations and circumstances that we start living as though we don’t need Him. So just about the time you get settled, God will send a storm in your life that causes you to turn back to Him.  v.27 - But He does offer this encouragement:
“It is I, be not afraid”

For my share today, I have used the following supplies:
cardstock:  white Spectrum Noir and light blue Recollection and a sheet of vellum
embossing folder from Spellbinders M-Bossabilities  EL-014
die from Spellbinders Labels 47 Decorative Elements

Read  Matthew 14: 22-33.  It is such a beautiful story in the Bible

I'm posting this last picture for my daughter in Florida to see my weather this morning: #frostonthepumkins

It's cold outside

Thanks to all that visit, read, look and comment.  You are much appreciated!

Sending you a hug and LOVE,
Lois

"Young Lady Penelope"

Happy Monday to my friends, followers and viewers.
I'm not quite ready for temperatures in the 30's with frost on the ground.  I can deal with crisp, cool weather where you pull out a sweater and go, but to start wrapping yourself in a coat, I'm just not ready. Yesterday was like that.  I was in a coat when I ventured outside.  When the weather is like this and mixed with my allergy problem, it was an uncomfortable day.  I guess I'll have to wait until Wednesday to warm up since the temperature is going to rise into the 70's.

I was introduced to a little Digi friend about a month ago by  Paola Jofre .  She looked so adorable that I just had to have her in my craft room.  At the time I received her, I was thinking of how we both could do something  in a cute and fun way.   I've colored her several times but could never get her make-up to look good.  Did I stop...no, I continued (many, many, many) times.

I commend all of you who are into coloring with Copic, Spectrum Noir, Watercolor pencil and any other supplies you use.  I'm not an artist so I was really giving Penelope some problems.
However, I think we finally got our act together:

Here is Penelope featured on a dark grey Recollection cardstock card base with a silver sheet of cardstock for the mat cut from Spellbinders Glass Effects die.  Another sheet of cardstock from DCWV the All Dressed up mat stack was use to cut out another die cut from the same die.  Several pieces were used to fill in some of the missing pieces.  The sentiment was typed and cut out using a circle die and placed to the side of Penelope.

Here is Penelope featured on a piece of white Recollection cardstock for the card base;  with a black piece of cardstock for the mat;  under the watercolor paper that has been distressed using Tim Holtz's distress inks.  Handmade flowers adorn  the Spellbinders Romantic Vine that has been cut out using a burgundy sheet of cardstock.

Penelope and I have become friends in my craft room.  I can't wait to color her up again.

Thanks for viewing!

Sending you a hug and LOVE,
Lois

Using Avery Elle Dotted Borders Die

Hello Friends, Followers, Viewers and Visitors,
Isn't it great, fantastic and glorious to finally see the beginning of the weekend!!!
I'm going out again according to my DH.  He wants to do something different other than working in the yard this weekend.  I'm going to make sure we are somewhere near a shopping mall...just to look...that's my enjoyment.
I used Avery Elle Dotted Border Dies to design my cards for today:

I picked two of the dies (on the right) from the package to use on my cards for today.

WordArtWednesday  Challenge#205 Anything Goes
I had paper from Craft Smith Metallic foil left over from my project on Thursday.  The card base is black Recollection cardstock with silver metallic foil from Craft Smith paper pad as a mat.   A small piece of red Bazzill cardstock was used behind the dotted foil.  A seahorse from K & Company was used as an added embellishment.  The sentiment reads: Remember That Something incredibly wonderful is always possible.
This card will also be seen on http://www.wordartwednesday.blogspot.com.

The left side of the card

The right side of the card

2nd Card
Supplies: Neenah white bright cardstock for base; raspberry Recollection cardstock for topper and pattern paper from Recollection Bright and Basic paper pad;   Michael's raspberry flower with die cut floral embellishments from other dies (Spellbinders and Martha Stewart) ; No sentiment at this time but this card can be used in various ways.

Thanks for taking a little time out of your busy schedule to view with me today.  Go out and have a blessed weekend.

Sending you a hug and LOVE,
Lois

Another Card For Christmas

Good Day to all my Friends, Followers, Viewers and Visitors,
Time and days are moving along.  When you think you can put something off, you'll find yourself rushing and making a lot of mistakes.  I'm referring to people who make their own cards to send out or donate to a worthy organization.
It is October and yes many who participate in making Halloween cards are still producing and adding Thanksgiving or Autumn cards to their pile.
Many card makers started back in July making Christmas cards.  Some of us and myself in particular started but didn't complete all that I wanted to make.  I just placed an order for Christmas paper that I saw on a web site and as soon as it gets here you will be seeing more cards for "that special time of the year" or that "most wonderful time of the year".
I started playing around yesterday with a thought of how I wanted a card to look.  I cut out all the pieces to put together this morning.  I may have to stash it because I didn't get that "good vibe" about how it came out.
With a lot of cardstock, pattern paper, embellishments and my imagination, I started on another one with somewhat of the same design.  The second one looked a little better than the first and will go in the box to send to a recipient.
Here are both cards:
The First Card I Made
With this card, I was trying to use an image that I printed out on vellum.  With the metallic foil background, the image appeared muted and out of focus.  Black Recollection cardstock was used for the card base and metallic foil from a Craft Smith paper pad was used for the mats.

The Second Card I Made
The supplies for this card: black and white Recollection cardstock ; red Bazzill cardstock for the mat; pattern paper from Simple Stories Cozy Christmas. I used the Tim Holt Alteration hanging sign die along with jolee's boutique holiday lanterns.

Are you making preparations for Christmas or will you wait until the last minute?

Sending you a hug and LOVE,
Lois
